About The Stone

Formed from volcanic activity, a geode begins as a gas bubble trapped within lava. The lava eventually cools and hardens, leaving these gas bubbles to form voids within the rock. Over time, various minerals are then deposited within the void by either groundwater or hydrothermal solutions, and this is what causes the precipitation of crystals. The type of crystal formation, whether it be quartz, amethyst, citrine or any number of others, is due to the composition of minerals dissolved within the groundwater or hydrothermal solution. The surrounding bedrock eventually weathers and erodes, leaving the geodes exposed at the surface. They may look like an ordinary rock on the outside, but when cracked open geodes display a beautiful glittering bed of crystals within their center.
